I had the pleasure of meeting Cecilia Schmidt at a conference back in March and she was so sweet and kind. It was a true pleasure to purchase her first book, "The War Rages On" and I really enjoyed it. We definitely need more Christian authors out there who are writing good, clean, Godly books that kids can read and a plus for me was that this book was historical fiction. (It's one of my favorite genres.)
What I Liked I really liked all of the characters, (at least the ones I was supposed to like, ;) ) and I ached for both Grace and David as they both faced hardship in their lives because of standing up for what they believe. Another thing I really liked in this book was the encouragement to respect your parents, even when it's hard. And in Grace's situation, it was really hard because her father, (who isn't a Christian) doesn't want her to marry David, (who is a Christian.) Yet while respecting her father, she still stands up for what is right and it was so refreshing seeing that written out in a Godly way.
The story just got better and better and just when you don't think things can get worse, guess what? They do. But God's sovereign hand is shown through the story and I found myself encouraged.
What I Didn't Like There wasn't really anything I didn't like about the book.
I give this book 4 stars for an enjoyable read that was very clean, yet dealt with some serious subjects. But Miss Schmidt handled them with grace and care for younger readers while still getting her point across. I will definitely be reading her 2nd book in the future!
I absolutely LOVED this book from start to finish. I seriously could not put it down once I started reading. Cecelia Schmidt is a very talented writer and did an amazing job! Her love for God and passion for writing shines throughout the story. This is a book that stays with you long after reading. I highly recommend it!
Oh Cecelia, your book kept me in suspense and anticipation from front to back. I surely hope you continue to use this wonderful talent to reach across the generations as everyone shares your book (and future books) with loved ones. It will be so awesome to see how the Lord uses you. It is so apparent the Lord has captured your heart and given you wonderful talent for communicating a godly life in a very hurting world. Your book was a blessing to me.
This book was absolutely amazing!! Cecelia is a very gifted writer and displays many different twists throughout the book, which made it very audience capturing and exciting! I read it in an hour and a half!!xD The length of the chapters was perfect, and the author ended them in such a way that made you want to keep reading. A very excellent, appropriate choice of book that will draw you in to the story!!

This. Book. Was. AMAZING. This is one of the most capturing books I have ever read IN MY ENTIRE LIFE. I have never read a book that captivated me in a story and made me feel like I was watching in play in my head like that! Not only is the story-line FLAWLESS. Grace really releates to struggles that really happen! Although it was 'fiction' I feel like it really wasn't. Because the way God worked in the pages of that book came out and worked in me. My faith was INSTANTLY restored just by reading this and I have NEVER read a book (Aside from THE BIBLE.) so captivating and describing of the love and care that the Lord has. I will never be the same after reading this and I thank the Lord, and the writer, for that.
What an amazing book! My daughter and I read this book together and it was enjoyed equally by both of us! It is too difficult to pick my favorite part of the book, but some of my favorite topics through out were the relationship between the mother and daughter, courtship, selflessness, and pure courage to stand for what is right. You are such a gifted writer and even more so a beautiful example to my daughter of a godly young woman. Even though we do not know you personally, she looks up to you in admiration. May the Lord continue to use you for his glory!
